removing stickers

Removing Stickers Safely From Glass

If you’re a college student, your school probably made you put up a parking decal on your car. A few months or so later, when you needed to remove that decal to put another one in its place for the new semester, you found that it was the toughest sticker you’ve ever had on your car. The adhesive not only seemed permanently attached in certain areas, but it also kept tempting you to grab your car keys and scratch it out. However, even though such decals—or other stickers on your car for that matter — give you a hard time, we have a method to help you in removing stickers once and for all without any remnants of the glue or any damage to the auto glass.

Simply follow our steps below:

Get Rid of Anything that Scrapes

When many drivers need to remove decals or car stickers off of their auto glass, they tend to grab their car keys and scrape at the sticky paper. This is a very terrible way to remove stickers. First off, it scratches the glass (which costs money to fix). Second off, it helps peel off the paper but does not get rid of the glue on the window. Other objects people tend to use to remove decals and stickers are shaving razors and screwdrivers. Not only do these seem absurd, but just think of all the damage these can cause if you’re using them to scratch stickers off. Just be aware that if others on the internet recommend using these objects, it doesn’t mean that they know what they are talking about.

Spray the Area with Water

After you’ve gotten rid of any tempting but dangerous tools, get a spray bottle and spray the area where the decal is with water. Or, you can simply wash your entire car and go from there. The way water works is that it softens the sticker just enough to help you add other products that do the rest of the removal.

Remove the Sticker/Decal from One Corner at a Time

Next, start out by picking at one corner of the decal with your fingernail, moving diagonally toward the opposite corner. We’ve all done this before, so it shouldn’t be difficult. What can be difficult, though, is the sticker tearing up a little bit of the way through. You’ll just have to pick another corner and repeat this step until all corners are torn. Try your best to get as much of the paper off before the corners tear. Afterward, attempt to remove what remains of the paper with your fingernail. Don’t feel bad if you can’t get rid of it all.

Use Suitable Products to Ease the Removal Process

There are a couple of products out there that are safe to use on auto glass. Some of these products are rubbing alcohol, acetone, and WD-40. We recommend that you use WD-40 because it was designed for the removal of such items as tar, bugs, stickers, and more; it is literally a penetrating oil that helps soften and wipe out unwanted elements. Take WD-40, or the other products mentioned, and rub or spray it on the decal. Then, leave the product to set for a minute or so.

Purchase and Use a Special Razor Blade

While you let the WD-40 set, grab a special windshield-safe razor blade handle and use it to peel off the decal. You can find these razor blade handles in your local auto store. Though they are called “razor blades,” they are not your typical shaving razors. Therefore, they don’t damage the glass when you use them to remove stickers. What you need to do is take the special razor blade and gently slide it against the sticker, peeling it as you go. This should remove all the paper and glue remaining.

Clean the Glass Properly

At the end, clean the glass as you would when you clean your car. Just be sure to use a microfiber cloth to wipe the glass. Whereas sponges and regular rags can scratch the glass, a microfiber cloth is soft, making it safe on car glass. Making sure to clean the glass properly at the end ensures that you wipe away any residue from the WD-40, acetone, or rubbing alcohol. At the same time, doing so keeps the glass in a great condition.

That’s all there is to this method. From now on, you shouldn’t dread removing any decals or stickers off of auto glass. With just the right tools and products, and a little patience, your car’s glass will be clean and back to its original condition.

Car Care 2018

Your car is a very important component of your life to keep you and your family safe. Proper car care can help to keep you safe. Here’s few items to check for your car care:

Tire Pressure – as the temperature drops, so does your tire pressure. Driving with under inflated tires can be dangerous but on the bright side, it can improve fuel efficiency to have your tires with the proper psi.

Battery – Keep your battery erosion-free. Batteries don’t give warning lights.

Brakes – Have your brakes checked. You don’t have to be reminded on how important it is to have proper brakes.

Oil – Change your oil at regular intervals. Oil is the life blood of your car.

Wiper Blades – Change in temperature can make the rubber on your wiper blades hard and brittle. Torn or cracked blades won’t properly clean your windshield.

Gas tank – Try to have your gas tank at least half full at all times, especially if you live in a colder winter climate. This decreases the chance of moisture forming in the gas lines and possibly freezing.

Headlights – Replace before burnout when possible. The problem is – most drivers don’t know their headlight is out. Driving with a burned out headlight on a dark road poses a risk to both the driver and others.

Spare Tire – Be sure you have your spare tire on your vehicle and not laying in the garage.

Emergency Kit – Try to carry an emergency kit which includes jumper cables, flash light, basic tools, first aid kit, and water supplies – all things to help you survive until help comes to get you back on the road.

Mobile phone – Be sure you have your mobile phone fully charged or carry a back-up battery.

Car Wash – Have your car washed or wash it yourself at least once a month.

Follow this list for a happy car!

rain on the car

Precaution against Rain Prevents a Windshield Repair

Rain isn’t the most terrible element people encounter while driving. Snow, thunder, and hail are much worse. For instance, snow can cause tires to swerve, forcing the driver to be in a dangerous situation that could harm him and other people on the road. Hail, too, can be a dreadful element when people are driving. It could chip or crack the car glass, making the windshield unstable. However, while people can’t exactly take precautions against these three elements, they can take precautions against rain. Rain is somewhat calmer than snow, thunder, and hail, but heavy rain, particularly during a big storm, can be just as threatening. In the midst of a rainstorm, the one thing drivers usually do is turn their windshield wipers on maximum speed. Doing so causes immense friction against the glass, which can lead it to become scratched or broken. Therefore, it’s important to protect car glass prior to facing rain in order to prevent a windshield repair.

Making Sure Wiper Blades are In Working Condition

When you have the time, examine your car’s windshield wipers and make sure they are functioning. Wiper blades play a major role in maintaining the windshield. If they’re getting old and you can clearly see cracks and tears in the rubber, they could scratch the glass when you put them to use. Thus, if you’re driving during a heavy storm and your wipers are in an awful condition, you could be destroying your windshield right there and then, one movement at a time.

What you need to do: Don’t neglect your windshield wipers. Look at them closely once a month and any time after you drive in a storm. Search for cuts and worn rubber, and if you find any, replace the wipers with new ones. The life expectancy of wiper blades usually varies somewhere from six months to a year. As long as you inspect them regularly and don’t keep them longer than they are meant to last, you’d be guarding your glass from getting broken and needing a windshield repair.

Keeping Car Glass Clean

Although cleaning your car glass doesn’t directly affect rain, it does maintain your windshield wipers, which, in turn, keeps the glass strong and secure during rain. Otherwise, if you leave the glass dirty, then the wiper blades will also become dirty, making them more prone to cracks and tears in the rubber. Then, the next time it rains, you’d be using worn out wiper blades to shield the glass, but you’d be causing damage instead.

rainrepelInvesting in a Rain Repellent

This precaution is not necessary, but it is highly recommended if you want to do everything you can to avert a windshield repair. Using a windshield rain repellent helps you ward off rain without needing to set your wipers to maximum speed. In fact, with a rain repellent treatment, you might not even need to use your wipers at all. The rain repellent usually does a great job of improving your visibility during rain. Rain-X is a well-known rain repellent product in the market.

What you need to do: You can spray the rain repellent on the glass (the windshield and other windows) and then wipe the excess off. It’s pretty easy using a rain repellent.

parkingParking Cautiously

How do you park cautiously and how does that defend your car glass from rain? The answer is simple. When you park your car, check your surroundings. Make sure that your car isn’t directly underneath a tree with a weak tree branch that could fall easily. Take a look at anything that could harm your vehicle, even if it’s sunny out and the weather is nice. For all you know, while you’re away, a bad rain could ensue and wreck your car glass. So taking this precaution is an added safety measure.

Taking these precautions against rain certainly will help you avoid a windshield repair. Plus, these recommendations are easy to follow and don’t take long to do. Consequently, there’s really no reason to allow rain to ruin your car glass.

Windshield Replacement – Safe Drive Away Time

What is Safe Drive Away Time?

The term Safe Drive Away Time (SDAT) refers to how long after your windshield is replaced that your car is safe to drive away SAFELY. This will vary depending on the adhesive type used when replacing your windshield. In some cases, it can be as little as an hour or as much as several hours. Type of adhesive, temperature, humidity are all factors when determining the time. Summer weather can have the adhesives cure quicker while winter weather can slow the process down.

Your certified technician will inform you of how much time is needed before driving away. If you are taking the car to the shop, you may be better leaving it there instead of waiting for it. If you are using the mobile service, this is probably not an issue.

What happens if you drive the car before the adhesive cures properly?

While it is an unlikely event that you will have an accident a few hours after your windshield is replaced, it can happen. Your properly installed windshield supports the vehicle’s roof. If the Safe Drive Away Time is ignored, the windshield may not stay in place in the event of a crash. You and your passengers are not safe at that point as the roof could cave in or be ejected through the opening. Knowing the SDAT could save your life

Minimum Drive Away Time

Recently the term Minimum Drive Away Time (MDAT) has been added to the windshield replacement vocabulary.  It is more accurate, as it reflects a minimum amount of time needed before a vehicle could be considered to be operational and safe.

No matter what – Companies should stand behind their drive-away time. If it’s 30 minutes, then that’s the minimum time needed for the adhesive to cure. Some technicians may go further and add more time on top of that minimum, just in case. Better to be safe than sorry!

Windshield Glass Repair Orlando

Sometimes, our car glass, particularly the windshield, cracks. This doesn’t mean that we’re to blame. A number of things out of our control could have gotten wrong, such as a pebble hitting the glass or a walnut falling from a tree. However, it is in our control that we get a windshield glass repair Orlando as soon as we can in order to fix the crack and keep other glass and car problems at bay. Here are some tips for when you find your car glass cracked and need to take action:

Go to a Professional Auto Glass Shop As Soon As Possible

No matter how tiny the crack is, you should never delay getting a windshield glass repair. The longer you wait, the more the crack will spread into many fissures, splitting off in different directions, and leading the glass to ultimately shatter. Plus, you really, really (this cannot be stressed enough) don’t want to be driving when the used-to-be-tiny crack on your windshield suddenly shatters into millions of pieces in your face. When you have a crack in the glass, anything can cause it to spread and break, including rain and driving over road bumps. So as soon as you see a crack, or even a chip, make a note to go to a professional auto glass shop as soon as you can. Don’t wait a week or longer. Within the next two days, you should have your windshield fixed. Though, if the crack is big, refrain from driving your car and find another method of transportation.

In the Meanwhile . . . Examine the Crack

Even if you scheduled some time to take your car to an auto shop and fix the windshield crack, it’s important that you inspect it yourself as soon as it occurs. For instance, if you’re driving to work when a pebble from the road suddenly hits the glass, you should stop when you get the chance and take a look at the situation.

How bad is the crack and where is it located on the windshield? If the damage is just a tiny chip, you’re not in a big risk, which means that you can temporarily drive your car until you go to an auto shop within the next few days to get it replaced.

On the other hand . . .

If the damage is a major crack that’s splitting in many directions, you should probably avoid driving and instead call a mobile windshield repair professional to come. This also holds true if the crack is obstructing the driver’s view.

Temporary Solutions – There are, of course, temporary solutions that you can do from home, like using an auto glass repair kit. If the damage on your windshield is minimal, like a small chip, then it is safe to rely on one of these kits for a temporary repair of a chip but if done incorrectly you will need a windshield replacement.

Future Precautions

In order to prevent cracks from ruining the windshield, it’s crucial to regularly check on the status of the glass. Knowing if there are any chips can help you repair them before they turn into cracks. Furthermore, don’t use regular sponges to clean the glass. Purchase a microfiber cloth; it won’t scratch or cause damage. Though, what’s really important toward protecting the windshield is to frequently clean the glass and windshield wipers.

Next time you find yourself dealing with a car glass damage, it is essential that you get immediate windshield glass repair. You’ll be doing what’s right in maintaining your car and keeping yourself safe when you drive.

Damaged Windshield Florida Statute

Can I get a ticket for a damaged windshield?

Florida statute 316.610 reads:

It is a violation of this chapter for any person to drive or move, or for the owner or his or her duly authorized representative to cause or knowingly permit to be driven or moved, on any highway any vehicle or combination of vehicles which is in such unsafe condition as to endanger any person or property, or which does not contain those parts or is not at all times equipped with such lamps and other equipment in proper condition and adjustment as required in this chapter, or which is equipped in any manner in violation of this chapter, or for any person to do any act forbidden or fail to perform any act required under this chapter.

In case you just skipped over the technical jargon, it means the police can stop you if they believe your car is unsafe, like a damaged windshield. Also, it is a primary offense, meaning you do not have to be doing anything else wrong for them to stop you. You can have your hands at “ten and two”, going three miles under the speed limit and maintaining your car in the lane perfectly…but if your windshield is cracked, you may still see sirens in your rearview mirror.

What’s the Outcome?

You can be facing a variety of unfavorable outcomes. If the police officer lets you off with a warning, then you will still have to spend several anxiety filled minutes alongside the road. If the police officer writes you a ticket, then you will either have to pay it or get the windshield fixed within 30 days AND either mail in proof of the correction or bring proof (depending on the county) to the county clerk’s office where you were ticketed. However, if the police officer decides your vehicle is not safe to drive, then you could be forced to have it towed at a substantial cost…and, of course, the ticket. While the last scenario may seem unlikely, Florida Statutes do not specify what the measurements, length, or placement of windshield damage would be to render a vehicle unsafe to drive. Therefore, it is up to the police officer’s discretion.  Continue reading
